Isla finally got to experience my favorite weekend of the year! I just love Columbus Day weekend and not just because of my birthday. I love a sunny crisp fall day that conjures up all things cozy. I love the near-peak foliage scenery. I could not have been happier to experience it with my little ladybug. I think we have come home to RI for almost every Columbus Day weekend over the last 8 years. I can’t imagine being anywhere else. I have some of my best memories from my hometown at this time of year – it almost makes me feel a bit nostalgic.
Friday we took the day off and headed to the Roger Williams Zoo. Isla was not very impressed by the animals but loved all the other kids. I think she enjoyed the giraffes and elephants as well as the goats in the petting zoo. After the zoo we picked up Grandma at work and went to the practice that she works at so she could show off Miss Isla to her colleagues. We topped off the day under the Friday night lights at Brennan’s last football game of the season! It was an impressive display and Brennan played so well. It was so cute to see him having so much fun on the team – and hilarious to watch him knock down a few kids.
Saturday we planned on apple picking but it was pouring so we just had a relaxing morning at my in-laws’ house. We stayed there to watch Shep while they were away. Then we went to Grandma and Poppi’s house for a little birthday lunch celebration. After lunch Isla went for a nap and the skies cleared so Erik and I went to the Scituate Art Festival. It was a bummer that it had rained all day because most of the stands were closed. We made up for it by going to dinner on Federal Hill. Isla had fun making pizza with Poppi and her cousins.
Isla loved it when everyone sang happy birthday. She will be psyched in a few weeks when it is all for her!
Sunday we strollede around the yard at the Woulfe homestead and then headed back to Malden. I wish we had Monday off too so that we could enjoy another day of my favorite weekend!
