Adalie Celeste: Six Months

Dear Adalie,

Happy half birthday to you! I really can’t believe you are halfway to turning one! This month you became a handsy, busy baby who clearly can’t wait to be able to try and keep up with her big sisters!

I feel like we are on our way towards being mobile. this month you learn how to roll from your back to your belly but forgot how to roll from your belly to your back. it’s funny how you roll onto your belly while you are playing on the floor but you have not once attempted to roll in your crib.

This past week you found your voice and are babbling constantly. You are trying all sorts of new sounds and making sure that you make yourself heard. I don’t think you will have your sisters doing all the talking for you.

You continue to have just the sweetest demeanor and are rarely fussy. If there is enough going on to entertain you, you are happy. There usually is plenty! On your first Thanksgiving, we went to Auntie Jane’s house. we were the first to arrive and the last to leave. You hung out the whole time and were so happy. the weekend prior we celebrated Thanksgiving at Auntie Mikayla’s house and you were also the best behaved baby there.

This month you have some really big smiles for your daddy. You join in the excitement when he comes home from work.

We slowly started food over the last two weeks. You were not a fan at first and wouldn’t even close your mouth when I put a little bit on this phone and tried to feed you. You didn’t know what to do and mostly spit it out. A week in and you are much more open to eating. We only feed you once a day and you only take a few spoonfuls, but we’re on our way to getting you to eating what the rest of us eat. Isla loves being able to feed you. It is also such a big way she can help mommy.

Sleep on the other hand has not gone well. You are using mommy as a human pacifier and getting up every 45 minutes. we are pretty exhausted so we made the tough decision to sleep train this week. We were two days and now and have already seen improvement in naps. You’re falling asleep pretty quickly at night but are crying quite a bit in the middle of the night still. I expect that to improve over the next two nights. I’m also working on night weaning you so it is definitely difficult for us. I think ideally I would get you down to one feeding a night where you could then fall asleep quickly.

We are now entering your first Christmas season! You came with us to pick out our Christmas tree. We are so happy you are here to join in all the family fun!

I can’t tell you how happy I am that you picked me to be your Momma. You are the best little sidekick. I love you so much!

Adalie Celeste: Five Months

Dear Adalie,

You have found your voice this month and I think we are starting to understand what you have to say. You love to listen to yourself coo loudly and happily, especially in the middle of the night. You also have a certain voice you use when you are hungry and/or irritated.

A few times this month you screamed your head off while Auntie Jane babysat. She happened to be here at a time of day when you are your crankiest, but maybe let’s be nicer to her next time?

The day you turned five months old, you figured out how to get your toes into your mouth and that is your new life goal. You love putting everything in your mouth which goes along with the age.

Whatever was bothering you about nursing last month has resolved and you are back to nursing well but I need to make sure you don’t have too many distractions. Speaking of eating, you are so interested in watching us eat and were so mad the other day when Isla was eating goldfish and you weren’t. You were trying to grab them. I typically don’t start for until 6 months, but maybe we will start a few weeks early.

You had your first night away from Mama when I was at a work conference. you were tough for your daddy but you both survive the night just fine.

Isla is still your favorite person, but you are also pretty psyched to see Sonora these days. You are so lucky to have two big sisters entertaining you. This month I can just tell that you want to be part of the action.

you had your first Halloween which you slept through. We had purchased a penguin costume for you which you were busting out of by Halloween. you also got to wear to a Halloween party if over the weekend.

Ok Ads, let’s talk about sleep. It got pretty awful this month. Mama is back to being just-had-a- newborn tired. You aren’t napping well(3-4, 30 min naps/day) and pass out around 6:30 every night without having a good last feeding. Then we pop the pacifier back in your mouth every hour or more and I feed you once or twice. We did try to cry it out for two nights but you had a cold and did not get great feedings before you went to bed so I sort of had to feed you. I’m sorry but we will have to cry it out soon. First I would like to wait until you can roll over and find your own pacifier. I’m also holding on hope that this will just resolve on its own since I think it is part of the 4-month sleep regression, but I’m not counting on it.

I’m so tired as I mentioned, but you are just too sweet so I also enjoy our night cuddles to some extent. If it were safer and less of a cultural no-no, I’d totally be cosleeping with you because I love the cuddles so much

You are in your own room now. We decided to put you in Sonora’s old room since it would be tough to have you share with someone right now. You adjusted well to being in your own room and did not acquire any new sleeping issues as a result. your room is still part office so we will work on decorating and making it more of a room over the next few months.

I just love having you for my sidekick every day sweet girl! You are a great errand buddy and lunch date. You are pretty heavy though! Mama’s elbow is having some issues from carrying you around!

I can’t wait to share one of the most fun times of year with you over the next two months!

Love, Mama

Adalie Celeste: Four Months

Dear Adalie,

Adie, Ads Alowee (as Nunu calls you) you already have so many nicknames just like your big sisters!

Another month slipped right on by and you grew leaps and bounds again! Your favorite pastime is chewing and sliming all over your hands. You are figuring out how to use them and always have them in your mouth. If not your hands, you can finally hold a toy and bring it to your mouth to gnaw on.

You love observing all the hectic activity at our house. You are starting to sit in the bouncy activity seat. We have also tried sitting you at the table in the table chair but you probably need another month until you are really comfortable in there.

We have your 4 month check-up at the end of the week so I’m not entirely sure what you way yet but my guess is close to 15 pounds which is what Isla weighed when she turned one. You are growing out of your 3-6 month clothes and fit into most 6-12 months. It’s a good thing we have a ton of clothes!

You haven’t fed as well over the last few weeks because you are so distracted by everything. This means that you are eating more during the night. No longer am I getting 10 hour stretches at night. We are back to to wake up for night but you do go down to bed pretty early at 6:30/7. You get up for the day between 5:30 and 6… Or basically whenever Sonora wakes you. I’m not sure if part of the wakings are the 4-month sleep regression. You are having a harder time falling asleep these days but we are still doing our best to make sure that you are doing it on your own as much as possible. You are still a cat napper but have taken a few longer naps which gives me hope. You also continue to just want Mommy at once the witching hour hits.

You went on your first trip to New Hampshire this month and were a pretty good traveler! You even went on a few rides at Storyland – the antique cars, tractors, and ferris wheel.

You giggle a whole lot more and it is the sweetest sound. You find manouche, tap, tap, tap hilarious. You are sharing your giggles with everyone in our family this month.

You hit a big milestone this month and rolled over! You rolled tummy to back one day during tummy time and have done so a few times since. I’m not even sure you realized what happened.

We are now entering one of our favorite times of the year and can’t wait to share fall with you! It’s so nice to get outside on the crisp days. Mommy can wear you outside without sweating and you love looking around and watching your sisters play. We will totally be putting you in some.leag piles for photos.

You really are such a sweetheart and mommy can’t thank you enough for going with the flow and being so patient while I am helping out your big sisters. You are a wonderful little lady!

Adalie Celeste: Three Months

Dear Adalie,

Yesterday we closed out the fourth trimester! I’d say it was our best yet 🙂 You really came alive over the last month and went from a sleepy newborn to a round smiley baby who is ready to soak up all this thing called life is about.

You quickly grew out of your 3 month clothes and are already filling out your 6 month clothes. You weigh about 14 lbs.

You are an excellent night sleeper. Most nights you are sleeping 10 hours. If you do wake before that, you have a quick feed and are right back down. You go to bed around 8 now which is right after your big sisters. We moved you from the bassinet to the crib in our room and from the swaddle to the sleep sack and you immediately adjusted with no issues. You really go with the flow which is what Momma needs! You even fall asleep for naps and bed by yourself most of the time. We need to work on naps. You are a cat napper but that seems normal and I’m sure you will consolidate naps over the next month or two.

You need to be entertained more now. You don’t love the Mamaroo again. You prefer your playmat so you can look at toys. We are trying to encourage you to hold your toys. You desperately want to put them in your mouth but can figure out quite how to hold them yet. You are also rocking tummy time on your boppy. You don’t tolerate that for too long but you are wowing us with how well you can hold your head up.

Isla continues to be one of your best buds. You have so many smiles for her. She likes to “babysit” you while I am busy doing something else and you are always so good for her.

You really are incredibly easy going. Anytime we are out and about you are content to just be doing what we’re doing. Our one challenge is that you also suddenly just want your mommy at night. This makes it hard for anyone else to hold you because you scream for them. I definitely love that you know who I am, but it does make bedtime really hard sometimes. It’s also difficult during the day when both you and Sonora want me to hold you. Poor Sonora gets very upset sometimes and cries and asks me to put down baby “Alowie” as she calls you. This breaks my heart.

You are still lukewarm on the pacifier but really love to chew on your hands. You are constantly blowing bubbles lately and your shirt is becoming soaked with drool.

Another thing you love this month are tubs. from the moment you get in the tub you do not stop kicking your feet.

I am so sad because all of a sudden we are no longer spending time just snuggling on the couch while you snooze. Not that I had that luxury too much this time around, but there is nothing like being trapped under a sleeping baby. What I considered to be my maternity leave is over and it is harder to let house projects be pushed aside. I can’t quite express how much I enjoy having a baby this time even though my time is spread so thin. It does make the passing of each milestone so bittersweet. You are such a joy and I love being your Momma!

Adalie Celeste: Two Months

Dear Adalie,

I’m fairly certain the past two months flew by faster than they did with your sisters! We are so busy all the time merely because your sisters are at such a busy active stage. I treasure our quiet moments together when we can snuggle and you nurse. I’ve even enjoyed our middle of the night feedings when we catch some time just you and I since you must share my attention so much.

You love to eat and are growing so much. You weigh 12.5 pounds. As much as you love to eat, you are quite kind to your mama and try to do all of your eating during the day. You are sleeping very well! You typically go to bed between 8:30 and 10 and then sleep until 3 or 4. After a quick feeding you are back to sleep again. Often you are a bit restless for the second stretch, but you usually figure out how to put yourself back to sleep and tend to stay asleep for another 1.5-3 hours. Mommy is getting 6 to 8 hours of sleep a night and that is great! I know all of that can change with a sleep regression but for now we are enjoying this.

When you are awake you are a very happy baby. You are so much more aware of everything going on now and just like to observe. You very rarely fuss and if you do, you are either hungry or want your pacifier. Big sister Isla is very good at giving you your pacifier when you need it.

You had your first family vacation this month. You were the best little traveler and totally went with the flow.

You really started smiling this month! It totally melts mommy’s heart when you give me a huge smile. The other person you really smile for is for Isla. It is so sweet to watch you both interact. I think you brace yourself when Sonora comes your way because she is still working on being gentle.

On your 2-month birthday, you also giggled for Mommy! It was such a sweet sound and I can’t wait to hear more giggles!

I just love being your mama sweet girl. Thank you for choosing me!
